This month we launched the new site for J&P Pool, Spa and Patio, located right here in Montauk! It was fun working with another local business and I hope to start doing more of that (not that I don’t love working remotely – I do! The next site I launch will be from a client based in Australia — call me globe-trotter!)
The J&P Pool site firmly cemented my new love for Concrete 5 (yes, that was a bad pun, wasn’t it?) as the best CMS for clients who want a system that is genuinely easy to use for simple updates in-house.
There’s no better way to see Montauk than from the deck of a bluewater sloop gliding effortlessly through the water under the power of the wind. Whether it’s one of our “walk-on” Discover Montauk sails, a sunset cruise, or a one-of-a-kind adventure charter trip, we have a way to get you out on the water at the pace that’s right for you. No experience necessary, and all ages are welcome.
This site was also my first experience with another Open Source CMS product called Concrete5 and so far, I’m loving it! Look for much more blather about Concrete5 here in the future.
Long but good day today as we relaunched Patti LuPone’s official site! We added some great new photos, and updated the color scheme and layout. It’s always so rewarding to work with longstanding clients, where you have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of their needs. We’re also making more use of the email list, and sending out e-blasts when she has an upcoming event like this appearance March 1 in San Francisco.
Wow, it has been a long time since we did an update here, but that is good news because it means we’ve been busy!
WordPress development is the theme of the day, and we’re up to our elbows in code, re-vamping a couple of client sites to run using mega-customized WordPress as a total CMS solution.
Went to the Open Video Conference (hosted at the Fashion Institute of Technology on October 1-2) to learn about new and developing technology for online video production, hosting, and serving. Of course, I was also there to geek out with fellow tech geeks and play with all the cool new toys.
Lots of panels, talks, and demos regarding HTML5 video in particular, and what its adoption is going to mean for Web developers down the road (an easier time! And an end to plug-ins! Woohoo! Of course, widespread adoption and implementation is still a ways down the road, but at least we can see it there, glittering tantalizingly on the horizon. :g:)
I’m trying out MailChimp’s service to administer the new mailing list. Feature-wise, it seemed pretty comparable to Constant Contact, and I found MailChimp’s service more appealing. And only partially because of the chimp.
The latest project here at the Workshop has been the re-launch of the site for Montclair State University’s performing arts program Peak Performances with performance and artist data for the 2010-2011 season.
The site was originally developed with an older release of Ruby on Rails + MySQL, so when I took over development getting all the versions and plugins of this and that to play nicely on the sandbox site was the usual Rails fun and games, haha. But it all came together in the end, and I’m looking forward to further developments in the Rails arena!
Here’s the half-page ad we placed in the program for Hampton Ballet Theatre School’s production of Peter and the Wolf, performing with the Hampton Chamber Orchestra tonight at the Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) in Bridgehampton, and Thursday night right here in Montauk at the Montauk Playhouse.
We’re so proud of Maggie (who’s playing her first featured role as the cat in Montauk) and Emily (our brave little huntress) and all the wonderful, hard-working kids at HBTS. Hats off to Sara Jo Strickland for putting together another wonderful production.
Crown Books has released a short video of Patti LuPone discussing her upcoming memoir. We at the Workshop were pleased as punch to see Patti’s site mentioned and pictured, with Patti describing the Ramblings From the Road feature as a training ground for sharing her thoughts.
Donated design of a quick postcard listing the sponsors of the FamilyFest series of all-ages entertainment programs at the Montauk Playhouse, running 4 successive Thursdays from July 22 – August 12. It looks like a really terrific slate of events!
